Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, attacking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the group enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.

Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
